Where to Camp in Jasper National Park

Jasper National Park offers plenty of popular camp grounds for making lifelong summer memories. Here are three campsites to book on your next Canadian Rockies adventure through Jasper.

Whistler's Campground, Jasper National Park


Whistler's Campground is the closest campground to town, located 5-minutes drive from Jasper.


The campground is adjacent to Wapiti Campground and the Athabasca River, and is accessible by many lovely walking trails nearby. This is a good option for those wanting to stay nearby the town.


Campsite inclusions:

  • Tent and RV sites

  • Powered and unpowered sites

  • New facilities (shower and toilet block) as the campground was affected by the 2024 Jasper Wildfire

  • Must book in advance through Parks Canada

  • Open summer only


Wapiti Campground, Jasper National Park


Across from Whistler's Campground is Wapiti Campground, located on the riverbank of the Athabasca River. This campsite is another good option for those wanting to be closer to town, and is one of few year-round campsites, open in the winter months.


Campsite inclusions:

  • Tent and RV sites

  • Shower and toilet block

  • Powered and unpowered sites

  • Open in summer and winter (check the Parks Canada site for opening dates)

  • First-come, first-serve in winter only, must book in advance through Parks Canada for summer


Snaring Campground, Jasper National Park


Snaring Campground is a walk-in campsite, making it a great option for those unable to make a reservation at other campgrounds, or travelling at their own pace.


The campsite is approximately a 10-minute drive north from Jasper, towards the park gates and Hinton, away ffom the Icefields Parkway.


Campsite inclusions:

  • First-come, first serves, unable to reserve in advance

  • Open summer only

  • No vehicles

  • Walk-in sites (you must park your car in a designated parking spot and walk to the pitch)

  • The Overflow Campground is nearby if there are no available sites upon arrival


Miette Campground, Jasper National Park


Stay right near the Miette Hotsprings and experience true wilderness at the Miette Campground, approximately a 10-minute drive from the Jasper National Park gates.


This campground is more secluded than the other camping sites and is located in a dense area of forest, making a for very serene camping experience. Note, there are no stores or gas stations located nearby.


Campsite inclusions:

  • Tent sites only (no vehicles)

  • Shower and toilet facilities

  • Must reserve in advance with Parks Canada

  • Open summer only

  • Walk-in sites (you must park your car in a designated parking spot and walk to the pitch)
